“Cathedral Square, Milan” sells for $37.1 million
In May 2013 Richter’s 1968 piece “Cathedral Square, Milan” is sold in New York for $37.1 million (£24.4 million); shortly before, in late 2012, Eric Clapton had sold his 1994 “Abstraktes Bild (809-4)” at Sotheby’s for $34.2 million.

His first major exhibition in Australia: “The Life of Images”
The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane mounts “Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images”, with more than 90 works, including the newly created “Atlas Overview”, a 400-panel extract selected by Richter from the larger “Atlas”, now deemed too fragile for loan or travel.
