In 1848 Doré becomes a participant in the Salon, where he exhibits his work.

A commission for Byron and British publishers
In 1853 Doré is asked to illustrate the works of Lord Byron; this commission is followed by additional work for British publishers, including a new illustrated Bible.
1860s
“Don Quixote” illustrated by Doré
In the 1860s Doré illustrates a French edition of Cervantes's “Don Quixote”; his depictions of the knight and his squire, Sancho Panza, become so famous that they influence subsequent readers', artists' and stage and film directors' ideas of the physical “look” of the two characters.

A major exhibition in London and the Doré Gallery
