May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This bust is made by an unknown artist in the first half of the 17th century.
The sitter is shown in full face with a short pointed beard. Head and collar are executed in white marble, and the tight-fitting robe and mantle beneath in black marble. In the back is an iron ring for fixing.
The bust probably comes from the demolished church of Santa Lucia alle Botteghe Oscure in Rome, where it was set on a wall monument in a circular recess.
