This bust depicts Faustina the Younger (130 AD – ca. 175 AD), Roman empress and wife of Marcus Aurelius. Though it was probably made as a decorative bust for the home, Wedgwood often used these as models to make moulds to create his own busts in ceramic, usually black basalt.
