Sepia drawing of the actor/manager Sir Henry Irving (1838-1905) in an unidentified role. Irving is shown lying on a chaise longue, dressed in a great coat and holding an open book in his left hand. Unsigned, ca.1860.
The drawing may show the actor in the role of Sidney (or Sydney) in A Tale of Two Cities which had been adapted for the stage by Tom Taylor (in consultation with Charles Dickens) in 1860.
