A sketch of figures by a doorway, and another of figures beneath a parasol.
On the back are two sketches for a portrait of a Western woman: one study of head and shoulders, one composition with a woman seated in an interior. The inscription indicates that the woman to be portrayed was Sarah Rea, who married Thomas Layton in Macau in 1837 (see also E.1940-1928)
