May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This drawing is a design for a stage set showing a State Bedroom, possibly for the temporary theatre erected at Hampton Court in 1718. The draped bed, surmounted by a plume of feathers, is flanked on either side by statues of Apollo and Diana. Thornhill sketched the composition in penceil before going over in pen and ink and wash.
