Own studio in The Hague
In 1815 Schelfhout opened his own studio and became a member of the Pulchri Studio. Thanks to his technical mastery and sense of composition, he soon won fame beyond The Hague.

Recognition after "Winter Landscape"
Recognition came to the artist at the age of 28 with the painting "Winter Landscape." Winter scenes became his principal theme.

In 1819 Schelfhout was awarded a gold medal at the art exhibition in Antwerp.
