First journey abroad: Italy and a winter in Vienna
Leaving Switzerland for the first time, Jeanneret went to Italy; the Charterhouse at Galluzzo near Florence made a lifelong impression on him: “I would have liked to live in one of their cells.” He spent the winter travelling via Budapest to Vienna, where he stayed four months and met Gustav Klimt.
