The "Gothic Period" and Saturday
The years 1911-1914 are called his "Gothic period": the role of color diminished and forms grew austere. A somber mood and themes of the dreary monotony of provincial life entered his work — Saturday (1911-1914, Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow).
