Death of His Mother
The artist's mother, Anne-Élisabeth-Honorine Aubert, died.

Sale of the Jas de Bouffan
At his sister's insistence he sold the deserted Jas de Bouffan estate and moved to a small town apartment at 23 rue Boulegon in Aix; a planned purchase of the Château Noir fell through. He hired a housekeeper, Madame Brémond, who cared for him until his death.

Three Versions of The Large Bathers
In the last seven years of his life he created three large-format versions of "The Large Bathers"; the largest (208 × 249 cm) is in Philadelphia. Instead of nude models he used sketches and photographs.
