May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This statuette representing St. George and the Dragon probably formed part of a small altarpiece or was a free-standing figure. This statuette is carved in several sections and some parts are later replacements. Three-dimentional images of St George were ubiquitous in the Tyrol and South Germany. The square shoes -if the replacements follow the original- and the costume point to a date of about 1510-20. The presents condition and the poor quality does not however permit a more specific attribution.
