May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This statuette is made in the second half of the 15th century in Germany by and unknown artist.
The group shows a young man and woman in the costume of the period, standing and holding a wreath between them.
It is made of pipeclay, which is a fine white clay also used to make tobacco pipes and pottery. Conveniently situated on a major trading route, Siegburg was a centre of ceramic production with well-organised workshops and kilns in which also pipe-clay figures were fired.
