It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This plaque relief in bronze is made by an unknown artist in Germany, probably ca. 1500.
The relief is related to a number of replicas in bronze, terracotta and cartapesta of different sizes, which have all been associated with a series of eight rectangular reliefs in Solnhofen stone in the Städtische Kunstsammlungen in Augsburg. This sequence is itself probably based on single leaf woodcuts of about 1430.
The iconographic scheme seen here seems to have been widely popular in Germany throughout the 15th century and the early 16th centuries, and was used as early as 1443 for the silver relief of The Annunciation on the right wing of a triptych in the church of Mariapfarr in the Salzburg district.
