Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova, husband and wife, worked together for over 40 years. They pioneered sculptural glass in Czechoslovakia, developing the technique of mould-melting glass, in which large chunks of raw glass are laid into a mould taken from an original clay model and fired in a furnace. Teaching generations of students, Libensky passed on this technique, which is now a classic hallmark of Czech glass. 'Arcus' is a monumental abstract sculpture in which Libensky and Brychtova have explored geometry and optical effects.
