Peut-on la contempler ?
Londres, Royaume-Uni
Elle appartient à la collection, mais n’est pas présentée en ce moment.
This statuette is by an unknown artist from the 16th century from Germany and represents the Child Christ as a nude standing figure, with a dove symbolical of the Holy Spirit in His hands. The head of the figure is cut off.
It is made of pipeclay, which is a fine white clay used to make tobacco pipes and pottery.
Conveniently situated on a major trading route, Siegburg was a centre of ceramic production with well-organised workshops and kilns in which also pipe-clay figures were fired.
