Watercolour sketch created for publication in a magazine/newspaper, probably The English Illustrated Magazine, in 1899. As the handwritten caption beneath the illustration makes apparent, it shows a dramatisation of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in 1865. The illustration has been signed by the artist, H.A.Eves in the top right hand corner.

This item is one of several theatrical drawings from a collection of sketches commissioned from contemporary artists to be printed in illustrated magazines. The collection was donated to the museum by Sir William James Ingram in 1914.
